Autumn is a time of rich russets, golden yellows and burnt oranges; present in both trees and hedgerows as well as the seasonal fresh produce. As the summer months fade, the produce becomes heartier to satisfy customers as the days become cooler. Growers are busy harvesting produce requiring storage such as onions, potatoes and apples before the winter arrives.
Fields of vibrant orange pumpkins are harvested ready for Halloween celebrations. An array of squash, including gem and acorn, makes an appearance during the autumn months, perfect for roasting with warming spices. Braised red cabbage with tangy Bramley apples is a British favourite and wonderful with pork dishes.
